Lessons from BOC - Part 2
Posted on March 7th, 2009 in Workouts |
First week I lost about 5, probably to cutting out salt, adding more water, and tracking what I ate as well as cleaner eating.
Middle 6 weeks level or up (weight wise), and I started doing some 2 a days. Upped the cardio too (weights 3 times a week the whole time - I did not want to overdo it for me). Started doing barbell squats and deads… I think I may have added leg muscle, adding weight there while I was losing some belly.
The last week (#8) was more cardio and no lifting, due to work travel and injury when lifting. I took no creatine this week, and I missed one dinner, and ate two “less than stellar” meals while on the road. Drank a lot of water near the end of the week. I felt trimmer the last 3 days of BOC, and the scale jumped down 3 pounds and stayed down the last 3 days. So I’m thinking the upset routine in eating (poorer diet) and no creatine contributed to weight (and belly fat) loss.
Now I’m thinking I lost muscle over the 8 weeks (though I’m lifting heavier), or is it that what I saw as bigger muscles 8 weeks ago was the fat around them? I’m pretty much a tall ectomorph, so, at my age, I’ll probably never be huge.
It’s a puzzle!

You are over thinking this whole thing. Focus on building muscle - ignore weight - You will either lose a couple of pounds or lose fat and gain muscle.
I have had to come to grips with the fact that I will never be muscular in the BIG sense - but damn it - clothes fit and I am lifting heavier. That is what counts - body composition.
Stop beating yourself up. Take a week off and relax. That is from the guy who is in Florida - on vacation - and going to the gym every day. Start the NROL program tomorrow.
We are all fools.
Hi seedoggie, just browsing through some blogs, and thought I would drop a line.
No surprise, I’ve gotta agree with TNT Man, I’ve pretty much thrown the scale away. Clothes are the best indicator, and how I am actually “feeling.”
Take care.

Seedoggie,
Don’t stress so much! You are a veteran here and know what you need to do! You know the scale isn’t the best measurement of how you are doing!
Get out there and wag that tail, you have a lot to be proud of!
