Lessons From BOC - Part 1
Posted on March 2nd, 2009 in Cardio, Exercise, Nutrition, Weight Loss, Weight Training, Workouts |
I’m trying to figure out what worked this past 8 weeks for BOC, and what didn’t work. It seemed things didn’t work mostly, in my case. I figured that I could lose an average of 2 pounds per week, or 16 pounds. A group of challengers who had some experience working out and eating pretty clean, and didn’t have really big weight loss goals, stalled in the middle of the 8 weeks. I did just about the entire middle 6.
I’ve heard of not eating enough, but I was eating 2000 to 2500 calories on a calculated maintenance level of at least 2900. And I gained weight, in the past, on probably (not measured) 500 calories a day more than this diet (extra: pretzels, cookies, crackers daily). So I’m guessing that my maintenance must be lower, and I wasn’t NOT eating enough this BOC, I was eating too much. Which is strange, the calculator being wrong, especially since I generally have always had a high metabolism.
My goal was to lose about 16. I lost 5 the first week. The next 6 weeks I stayed the same or even gained. The last week I lost 3 pounds. My diet was pretty much the same the whole time. Workouts too (maybe even increased in the middle, which was stalled).
more to follow later….

I wouldn’t get to crazy over the weight loss. Your photos showed a lot of change. Did you take measurements or body fat % for the challenge? You are top two in changes over the 8 weeks in my book.
thanks, Husky, I’m pretty pleased but trying to figure out calorie level, it doesn’t seem to add up. I really think I could lose 2 pounds a week (did in the past) and I have a mathematical, logical bent. I meant to take measurements and caliper body fat at the beginning and end, but nope, I didn’t measure at the start (or yet). I am pleased overall though - especially with week one and week 8. But if I threw out those weeks I don’t know if I would have any change for 6 weeks.
I really admire those people who keep up the diet for months, years - here I’m a little frustrated after 8 weeks. So I am grateful, too.
I wish you continued good work! I know I’m still charged up!
Why does it seem that weight never gets where we want it to be? As Husky said, your pictures look great. The scale lies…right? I have given up on the scale. Just work with how I feel, and how my body looks. As for calories, seems I can never eat enough…trying hard to change that!
Congratulations on your success and on your continued success!
bbmom,
Just that I ate and worked out better than before and middle 6 weeks nothing on the scale, not too much in pictures… have a ways to go yet… but how come I put on 16 pounds in about 3 months eating only a little more than when trying to lose? Simple to put on, hard to take off! LOL!
